Tax credits
12 April 2006
These tax credits are administered by the Inland Revenue and do not affect your tax bill.
You can claim Child Tax Credit if you are responsible for a child aged under 16, or under 19 and in full-time education.
You can claim Working Tax Credit if you work at least 16 hours a week if you either have a child or are disabled. If you are living with somebody you have to claim jointly and the amount you get paid depends on your joint income.
Your tax credit award is decided on the basis of our income for the previous tax year. At the end of the tax year you will receive a review pack. If based on the review you have been paid too little tax credit you will receive a lump sum rebate. If, on the other hand, you have been paid too much, you will be asked to pay it back.
If your circumstances change you must call the tax credit helpline straight away.
