Barclays have unveiled their vastly improved mobile banking website in an attempt to draw customers to use the service.

The facility has had two major improvements made to its interface on the popular mobile website, renowned for providing relevant banking services but also allowing simple access.

The site www.barclays.mobi login page has been greatly optimised for entry and for viewing on smart phones. A new feature ‘quick access’ has been developed for customers wanting to check balances, statements or to make a transfer.

This change was made after Barclays’ research revealed that complex logging-in procedures, is the main factor, putting customers off using a mobile phone for online banking.

Sean Gilchrist, Barclays Digital Banking Director said: "Today's improvements will significantly improve access to online banking for our existing mobile customers and will also reach out to new customers seeking simpler mobile access and navigation."

The second major improvement for the service was focussed on the ATM locator, the new update will allow customers to find the nearest Barclays branch or ATM and the maps will be adjustable to adequately fit the screen on the mobile phone.

He added: "Our research and customer feedback has shown that how the banking content fits on the screen of a mobile phone is crucial to more people using such services in the future.

“We believe our mobile banking service leads the market as we are the only UK bank which offers a specific mobi domain site, giving customers web pages designed specifically for viewing on mobile phones and content that customers want when on the move.

Since the launch of the website in May 2007, specifically devised to work on mobile phones, has now got security support from Kaspersky software.

They have developed software that protects smart phones, which include anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-theft systems.

Sean Gilchrist concluded by saying: "We have seen phenomenal growth in the use of mobile banking this year and we will continue to make improvements to the service.  The next phase will be to optimise other online banking services such as viewing balances, statements, transfers and payments to make mobile banking even quicker and easier for customers."
