Allianz invests in emerging markets team
Joe McGrath, 31 August 2010
Allianz Global Investors has broadened the expertise in its emerging markets team with the addition of a Latin America specialist.
Carlos de Leon has joined as portfolio manager and analyst reporting to RCM’s chief investment officer for global emerging markets, Michael Konstantinov.
De Leon joins from Harbert Management Corp where he worked in a similar role for the company’s emerging markets absolute return fund. He has previously worked for Barings and Deutsche Bank.
With 16 years researching Latin America and emerging markets, he has built strong contacts working around the world including Buenos Aires, New York and London.
Nick Smith, managing director of Allianz Global Investors Europe, said this is an important addition to the team given the continued interest in emerging markets funds.
He explained, ‘Carlos’s experience of Latin America makes him an important addition as we prepare to launch the UK’s first Brazil OEIC – the Allianz RCM Brazil Fund – this autumn.’
Speaking on his appointment, de Leon said he continues to be excited by the prospects in the sector.
He explained, ‘This is a dynamic and fast growing sector. Emerging Markets are playing an increasing role in driving global growth and many are set on a path to becoming the economic powerhouses of the future.’
