Contrary to what Spandau Ballet may have you believe, gold isn’t indestructible. The metal has however proven to be an extremely durable commodity over thousands of years.

And still has a part to play in an investor’s portfolio today. Gold has an almost magical quality; throughout history it has mystified and excited individuals in a way other commodities haven’t.

Yet it needs to be treated soberly when being considered for investment purposes, as there are a number of ways in which the golden asset can be invested, each with different risks.
