Aberdeen appoints to new Asia Pacific role
Ellie Duncan, 19 January 2012
Peter Elston has been named head of Asia Pacific strategy and asset allocation at Aberdeen Asset Management.
In his newly-created role, Elston will report to Hugh Young in Singapore, head of Aberdeen’s Asian business in Singapore, and Mike Turner, head of global strategy and asset allocation based in Edinburgh.
Elston has been with the asset manager for four years, having joined in April 2008 as an Asian investment strategist based in Singapore.
While at Aberdeen, he has worked as part of the global strategy team led by Turner, then as a member of the Asia Pacific multi asset tactical asset allocation team.
Elston commented, ‘The case for broad investment exposure to Asia is a simple and compelling one. Aberdeen already has strong track records in the key underlying asset classes of Asian equity, fixed income and property around which we will continue to grow multi asset products.’
Young predicted that Asia would remain a growth region ‘for years to come’.
Elston will work closely with Aberdeen’s Asian equity and fixed income teams who manage the underlying asset classes into which existing multi asset mandates feed.
He started his career at Mercury Asset Management in 1988 and spent 11 years at the company. For most of this time Elston managed Asian equity funds from Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
He has lived in Asia since 1989.
