Baring Asset Management has announced the appointment of Enakshi Roy as an investment manager specialising in Latin American equities.

The investment firm’s latest addition to its equities team has joined from Hermes Fund Managers in London, where she was associate director of global emerging markets and part of the stock selection panel for its Global Emerging Markets fund.

In her new role, Roy will report to Mike Simpson who is head of Latin American equities at Barings.

Simpson said he believes that Latin America is one of the ‘key drivers of the emerging markets story’.

He continued, ‘As we start 2012, we are optimistic about Latin American equities. Inflationary pressures have receded, which is allowing policy makers to lower interest rates and pursue pro-growth policies.

‘In addition, valuations are attractive, particularly in Brazil and Chile.’

Roy has also held equity analysis positions at Pinebridge Investments Europe in London and Chicago-based William Blair and Co.

Simpson added that Roy’s experience in equity analysis and stock selection would be an ‘asset to the team as we continue to strengthen our capability in this area’.
