Argonaut Capital Partners has appointed former Octopus Investments head of operations Edward James as its chief operating officer.

The appointment is the first since Ignis announced it would be reducing its stake in the European equities investment specialist joint venture.

James previously worked at Euroclear and Gerard Asset Management before its sale to Barclays Wealth.

Barry Norris, fund manager and partner at Argonaut Capital Partners, said James would manage its transition to a standalone business.

He added, 'His experience, expertise and enthusiasm will be invaluable to maintaining a first class and robust operational infrastructure and ensuring best practice.'
