Former Baillie Gifford fund manager Gordon Brown has resurfaced at Legg Mason subsidiary Western Asset Management.

Brown will join Western Asset Management as a portfolio manager on its global markets team, managing global mandates and specialising on Eastern European debt markets.

Chia-Liang Lian has also joined Western from Pimco as head of investment management for Asia (ex-Japan).

Steve Walsh, chief investment officer at Western, said, 'Gordon’s proven talent and deep expertise in sovereign markets will be of great value to our clients and to Western Asset.'

James Hirschmann, chief executive officer at Western, added, 'The line distinguishing developed and developing markets is blurring as they merge into a single global market sector.

'Gordon’s and Chia-Liang’s rich background across both developed and developing areas will be a valuable addition to our team.'
