Seeking value

28 July 2008

Investors continue to seek value in changing market conditions, says Barclays Stockbrokers.

With the FTSE fluctuating in and out of bear market territory, investor confidence remains, with many investors seeing a buying opportunity.

Henk Potts, equity strategist at Barclays Stockbrokers, says, ‘Rising inflation, sky-high oil prices and falling house prices, along with weak consumer and business confidence surveys, are all conspiring to reduce economic growth prospects and push markets lower.

‘However, against a backdrop of cheap valuations, we still believe that long-term investors will benefit from exposure to shares. Therefore, it’s good to see that a significant majority of our self-directed investors are seeing the current short-term volatility as an opportunity.’
