Plumbing supplies business Wolseley (WOS.L) was the biggest riser in morning trading (at 1034), with share price increasing by 3.9 per cent to 2,069p.

The rise was attributed to reports the company was to sell three UK businesses: Build Center, Electrics Center and Encon.

The company is also due to announce its third quarter results tomorrow (Wednesday 1 June 2011).

Temporary power provider Aggreko (AGGK.L) reported a 3 per cent rise in share price to 1,869p, while services company Serco (SRP.L) increased 2.9 per cent to 573.5p following its £385m acquisition of Indian outsourcing company, Intelenet.

Credit checking agency Exeprian (EXPN.L) rose 2.6 per cent to 796.5p, while chemical company Johnson Matthey (JMAT.L) increased 2.3 per cent to  2,072p.

The biggest faller was Cairn Energy (CNE.L) shedding 1.5 per cent from its share price, down to 435.8p after reports of downgrades by brokers.

Engineer Wood Group (WG.L) saw its share price drop 0.7 per cent to 629.5p, while Eurasian Natural Resources (ENRC.L) shed 0.3 per cent down to 853p.

Severn Trent (SVT.L) saw its share price slip by 0.2 per cent to 1,514p, as energy company BG Group (BG.L) fell by just 0.1 per cent to 1,408.5p.
