WI stock picks: Bank on Investec to perform
Rob Langston, 23 August 2010
The recent strength of financials and the banking sector in particular has presented a number of new opportunities for investors.
Nick Raynor, investment adviser at The Share Centre, said South African bank Investec provides wary investors with a non-UK alternative with growth potential.
He said, 'The company’s ambition to grow its operations was highlighted recently with the acquisition of investment manager, Rensburg Sheppards.
'This will enable it to build its private wealth and investment business and will have an impact on its income from the UK in the coming year.'
The analyst said the bank offered investors diversification away from the embattled UK banking industry.
Raynor added,'This stock also offers investors the opportunity to gain exposure to South African investment opportunities, albeit indirectly.
'South Africa now accounts for 49.7 per cent of the company’s income, compared to 41.4 per cent in 2009. Investors who feel the region has the potential for further growth may wish to consider Investec.'
