HSBC and Aviva extend general insurance deal
Rob Langston, 17 May 2011
Insurer Aviva (AV.L) and banking giant HSBC (HSBA.L) have extended their general insurance deal to cover the UK and Europe.
Aviva will be HSBC's 'preferred strategic partner' and has extended the general insurance distribution deal for home, travel and creditor business to 2016.
HSBC customers in the UK and Europe will be able to buy Aviva insurance products in branches, online and over the phone.
The original deal was signed in 2007 and was due to run for an initial five years.
The deal in 2007 led to the creation of HSBC Insurance and planned to make the brand a 'top-10 player' in the UK general insurance industry.
