Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE.L) is to sell a 50 per cent stake in is Braes of Doune onshore wind farm in a cash deal worth £61.3 million.

The stake has been sold to a fund managed by environmental investment manager Climate Change Capital, with the electricity - 36 megawatts (MW) - sold on to a third party.

Gregor Alexander, finance director of Scottish & Southern Energy, said the deal was the latest development in its programme to optimise its wind portfolio.

He said, 'Fundamentally, Scottish & Southern Energy owns generation capacity to meet the electricity needs of its own customers and this disposal will mean that the power generated from all but 12MW of our wind farm capacity is used for that purpose.'

'In addition, the proceeds from disposals such as this will support our plans to invest around £1.7 billion in the current year, in line with our commitment to financial discipline.'

It is the second such deal by Scottish & Southern Energy recently, which earlier this year sold a 100 per cent interest in three onshore wind farms to Infinis for £178.4 million.

The deals leave Scottish & Southern Energy with 775MW of onshore wind farm capacity and a further 12 onshore wind farms under construction in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Climate Change Capital currently manages a number of funds operating in the low carbon space.
