SABMiller bids again for Foster's Group
Rob Langston, 17 August 2011
SABMiller (SAB.L) has renewed its interest in Australian brewer Foster's Group with a £6.1 billion (A$9.5 billion) hostile bid for the company.
The bid values the group at A$4.90 per share, and comes after the board rejected an approach in June.
SABMiller - which owns brands such as Grolsch, Peroni and Miller - made the offer to Foster's Group shareholders after claiming that there had been 'no willingness' by its board to engage in discussions.
The off-market bid for all of the group's issued shares has been announced as SABMiller believed the offer was 'attractive' and should be put to shareholders.
In June, Foster's Group claimed the bid 'significantly' undervalued the company and would not be taking any further action.
Foster's Group - which owns the Foster's lager brand - reported a net profit of A$312.1 million in its first half earlier this year, for the six months to 31 December 2010.
